Aero Adjuster by SamusAranFreak Aero Adjuster by SamusAranFreak
This is a little app that adds a bit of Windows 8 functionality to Windows 7. (Again, no Vista support)
It sits in the tray, automatically detects when you change your wallpaper/when it is changed as part of Win 7's desktop slideshow, and changes the Aero color to fit that wallpaper.

If you don't like it, you can always restore the color to the point before the tool was opened.
Have fun :)

New in Version 1.2: You can now set Aero Adjuster to invert the color before applying it. Thanks to ~CharleyCross for the suggestion.
New in Version 1.2.1: Added images to the "Invert color"-menuitem because it looked ugly without them :P
New in Version 1.3: Added the ability to select what part of the image should be taken when calculating the average color. Thanks to ~dominic19 for the suggestion.
New in Version 1.3.1: Minor bugfixes.
New in Version 1.4: Rewrote the algorithm for the average color calculation and added the possibility to adjust the Aero brightness as well.
New in Version 1.4.1: Added the "EXPERIMENTAL" note to the image part feature and refined the code a bit.
New in Version 1.5: Rewrote the color averaging part using unsafe code (thus adding a DLL to the zip), making the tool faster and more stable. It shouldn't ever crash or freeze again. :D
New in Version 1.5.1: Appearently Windows always restored the old Aero color when restarting it. I didn't update the registry with the new Aero color in previous versions, that's why Windows did it. ;)
New in Version 1.5.2: Little update because I'm dumb and forgot to write the updated values to the registry after updating them.
New in Version 1.6: Aero Adjuster is now able to ignore non-colors, e.g. black, grey and white when calculating the average color of your wallpaper.
That means that pictures like [link] won't return black anymore, but their respective real colors. This option is disabled by default, so you'll have to enable it when first running the new update. :)
New in Version 1.7: Time for yet another update. This time, I implemented smooth color transitions. :meow:
Also, the additional DLL is responsible for the auto-updater. From now on, if an update is available, you can download and install it automatically. :)
New in Version 1.8 (also available through the updater): I added additional functionality to the transition part of Aero Adjuster, it now uses cubic bezier timing functions for everything. You can even copy values from an existing CSS and feed them to Aero Adjuster! :)
New in Version 1.8.5.1 There was an embarrassing bug in Aero Adjuster which prevented it from successfully updating on some machines. :iconhomerdohplz: I strongly suggest redownloading it from here or there: [link]
Thanks :)
(Please do not upload this elsewhere, if you want people to get this program, link them to this page instead. Thanks again :))

Sorry for my bad English, I come from Taiwan.
First thanks SamusAranFreak made this excellent app for us.
I deploy on my every pc.
But I found one little bug there, when Aero Adjuster is on.
Logout or Shutdown system will receive CSC.exe crash message everytime, which maybe link to C# Compiler
If Aero Adjuster not running, system shoutdown normal.
Maybe this connect to your app?
Thanks you again for made this excellent app, hope this problem fix soon.

Great program ! Thanks. I was using one of the older versions for the longest time and it worked great, but now that I have the newest version, it does not change the task bar color when the image changes. I can manually go into the program options and change the color by selecting one of options where the color is taken from, but it does not change on its own. Am I doing something wrong?

I honestly have no idea what might cause that.
I hope this kind of problem won't occur anymore in AeroAdjuster 2.

Kill AeroAdjuster in the task manager when the error message pops up and click "Retry", that should work.

Hi, i want to know if there's anyway that Aero Adjuster communicates with Rainmeter through WindowMessagePlugin [link] [link] .

Thank you, i love your app.

Do you want to trigger an Aero Adjuster action through a Rainmeter skin?
I'm not sure I understood your question right.

I would like Aero Adjuster (i think i can't do the function with only Rainmeter) to send a color (e.g. an hexadecimal, in this case the invert color function) to a skin, like a measure of a rainmeter skin.

You might want to use Rainmeter's Registry functionality instead of WindowMessage.
Look here: whateverCurrentUser\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM\ColorizationColor
It's the current AeroColor as hexadezimal integer though, so you might want to work some math magic before displaying the data.

Finally i can use the ColorizationColor in my skins :) just one thing,

my wallpapers change automatically and with each new wallpaper the ColorizationColor (and the other values) change to a default value and i have to click "Fit aero color to wallpaper", is it normal or just my computer? if it's normal, will you keep it in mind for the next update?

I'm sorry for ask so many questions these days but i would prefer to link Aero Adjuster than other software in my skins (like if they were important u_u) because i wouldn't have made it without your help. Anyway, thank you.

I think I know what causes the default color to be returned: After Aero Adjuster opens the wallpaper file to sample its color it forgets to release the file again.
Thus Aero Adjuster attempts to open that already opened file when the wallpaper cycle is repeated and the default color is returned.
Could you please check whether Aero Adjuster behaves like this on your PC? :)

That shouldn't happen and yet it happens and it's absolutely reproducible here. It actually surprises me that this error has gone so far without being reported. Thanks for doing so, I'll try to fix it.
You'll need version 4.0 (the full one, not the "Client Profile" or whatever one) of .NET Framework to be able to run Aero Adjuster 2 btw (which should be finished around next week). ;)

heyy, can u make a link for the latest version (1.8.7.2)?? The update seems to fail no matter in which directory i put the folder... It says error accessing the file: it cant overwrite the file

The solution to this problem is, when it says "Error can't overwrite files", just close the instance of Aero Adjuster from the system tray, and click on the retry button, it should get updated now.

Yep, that's it.
I set the update system to close Aero Adjuster before updating it, but it's not working.
I'll see to it that this bug gets fixed.

Try moving Aero Adjuster's folder onto your desktop, updating it there, then moving it back.
That's a known bug, but it's a bug in the update system which I have no influence over. :/
Or try simply restarting your PC, that fixed the problem when it occurred here one time. Please tell me if one of those solutions worked after you had a chance to try them.

(Also I'm afraid I don't have 1.8.7.2 here any more, but a new update is on the way! I'll update the description with a direct link of that version and make the update show up in your dA mailbox ;))

actually fading maybe impossible, i'm not sure that windows background color supports gradients.. but at least the basic flat color would be great to change :). please let me know what you think, if you like the idea. so i won't have to google for it anymore :).

Do you mean the desktop background color? Aero Adjuster was not designed to change that.
And even if an image is too small for your desktop, Aero Adjuster won't include the black bars around it, it only uses the image itself for the color calculation ;)

As I said, Aero Adjuster wasn't made to change that, also I'm not sure whether Windows allows me to freely change colors. I'll look into it though.

i've played with it on many pics and one more important thing required - separate settings of "invert color" and "adjust brightness" for desktop color and aero. changing brightness in aero makes it sometimes to be hard to read, when desktop is white or bright. but brightness of the background color looks better when it's adjusted. the same goes for inverting, i think.

Wow, thanks a lot :).

unfortunately i couldn't find or make to work tho.. ;).

i've downloaded the latest version, started it but i can't switch on "fit aero to wallpaper color". when i try, it just doesn't do anything and the item in the tray menu doesn't get marked.

where is the new mega feature? i am eager to see it :)

aha, you've not uploaded the latest version on the site. after allowing the update the background change worked :D.

Could you please add some configurable adjustments to it? Like -/+N% to the brightness and the choice of algo for selecting the color - average color/main one :D.

sorry for asking a lot of stuff, but isn't it how software gets better and better :D.

Well, I looked around a bit and Aero Adjuster is capable of changing the desktop background color now. ([link])
The only problem is that it's super laggy as the desktop background color was never meant to be changed in a program other than Windows itself. :/

Hello, thanks for the tool :). I've stumbled upon it searching for a way to change the Background color to fit the color of the desktop image. Sometimes desktop pictures do not fit the proportions of the screen. and then there are black stripes (or distortion). what i look for is a way to automatically change the background color to match the color of the image. of course color should be "close" to that located on the side of the image it meets and it should be possible to configure fading to make it look nice :). I really look for this feature.. cos right now half of my "aero" looks just black (image ends on half of the tray) and half of it looks blue.. could you please make this dream come ture? :D

Nice app. Thank you fo that ! I've got one or two issues :
1) When the application makes modifications, the "Intensité des couleurs" (perhaps "color intensity" in english) is always set to 1/3. It's too low for me. I'd like to keep this parameter personnalised if it's possible.
2) In Aero Adjuster, when I click on "Adjust Brightness as Weel", the application crashes.

And you could use DWMColorMod to check if the color intensity changes at all.
Maybe it's just the color of your wallpaper, since I use the average color, not the dominant one. ;)
